[ANNOUNCE] boxtream v0.998 is out

alet
Hi there,

I'm pleased to announce the immediate availability of Boxtream v0.998

Boxtream is both an audio and video encoder and streamer and an
assembly of audio and video hardware, forming a mobile video
streaming studio. It is written in Python, and built on top of
GStreamer (backend + frontend) and wxWidgets (frontend).

Boxtream is licensed under the terms of the GNU GPL v3 or later.

This project was designed to easily record and stream live
presentations including a presenter and synchronized slides, or
slides only, or presenter only, like live courses streamed over the
Internet for distance learning students. It supports and autodetects
several brands and models of video switchers. It can be entirely
controlled remotely over XML-RPC, and includes an X11 frontend.

Although the cost of the hardware we use is somewhat expensive,
Boxtream can of course work with a simple DV camcorder and a laptop
(with less features of though).

The major benefits of this software is the fact that live recordings
are saved both in encoded and raw DV formats, and that any number of
tasks can be automated when encoding starts or stops : feeding a
database, publishing some links on a web site, moving files
elsewhere, re-encoding the original DV files to other formats, burn
a DVD, the only limit being your imagination and your capacity to
write shell (or any language) scripts. Some examples are included.

You can learn more about Boxtream, especially its impressive feature
list, download it, or report bugs at :

Summary of changes :

  - Support was added for Kramer video switchers.
  - The dia schema of the general hardware architecture we use
is now included in the package. This can and should be adapted
    to your own needs.
  - Many small bug fixes and improvements all over the place.
  - Licensing terms changed from GNU GPL v2 or later to GNU GPL v3 or later.

Comments, flames, and/or contributions are very much welcome.

bye

Jerome Alet
