The freeze to start the next release cycle for Core/Base/Python is
supposed to be Monday, as per the schedule at http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/wiki/ReleasePlanning2009-1 I'm flying out to New York for a holiday tomorrow though, so I won't be around to run the release. If someone else wants to do it, the steps to follow are documented in gstreamer/docs/random/release - otherwise, the releases will be pushed by a week and a half and I'll start the freeze say Wed 15th after I'm back. Anyone feel like tackling these releases? I'll be away (part business/part vacation) until the 15/16th too, so can't help there. I should be able to run the regression tests remotely though.. but can't promise anything. Any chance that the second half of 2009 could see Gstreamer having a release number of 1.something rather than 0.10.amillionandone? I'm open to it - but not without actually API/ABI breakage to make it worthwhile. Just bumping the major number means all the library extensions change, which makes all the apps have to do work to switch over anyway. If we're going to do that, we have a bunch of things marked [0.11] that we ought to do too. And given the amount of 0.11 items (bugs, API improvements, enhancements), we would have to go through a 0.11 branch for 'at least' 6 month, write migration docs for apps/plugins, etc... I wouldn't mind seeing that branch started before the end of the year though... That would be great. So 0.11 would become 1.0? The reason I ask for this is that there is a perception that software with a 0.x version number is alpha or prerelease software. Obviously gstreamer has proven itself in the real world and does not deserve that misperception. Thanks.
