Can you guys try downloading this file and playing it thru gst-launch via playbin? I get a crash on Ubuntu 8.04, but I am not sure where it is coming from.

It's also good to test this sort of thing with a more recent version - since you're a developer, rather than an end-user, this shouldn't be unreasonably difficult. This file works fine, by the way, with current cvs. It did crash for me using older versions. I am not sure where the crash is happening, is it in GstCore or ffmpeg. I am using gstreamer 10.18, which is pretty new.

I didn't check (though it's unlikely to be in core - it could be in a demuxer, or a decoder, though). Since it doesn't happen any more, I'm not going to spend any more time on it, but you should feel free to track down exactly where it crashes if you're interested. Just a tip for you is to drop by on freenode irc channel #gstreamer . It may be a better place to ask small questions like this.
And the file works perfectly here using the latest file releases. You are in a cave or something. :D Greets Jens On Tue, Aug 5, 2008 at 7:48 PM, Ash <[hidden email]> wrote:

What is the best way to get the latest releases. My ubuntu source repository only goes up to 10.18 for the core/base and 0.7 for bad/good/ugly plugins. I tried downloading latest source and compiling from that, but it took a while to get each individual plugin working because I lacked a lot of packages. Is that the only way?

You should be able to find binary packages in Ubuntu/Debian somewhere.
They should work just fine as most underlying libs and stuff almost never changes. Some plugins may stop to work though. With the big distros splitting out the headers from packages you'll have a hard time installing all you need to compile it from source but it is of course possible. The certainly the best way to develop. However, there's an easier way to get all the build dependencies on ubuntu: "apt-get build-dep gstreamer0.10-plugins-base" (and so on for all the other packages). I just checked and 0.10.20 is available now, but it's for Intrepid.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=gstreamer&searchon=names&suite=intrepid§ion=all Open your sources.list and add ... deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid main restricted deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid universe multiverse ... next fire-up synaptic, refresh and upgrade only the gstreamer parts.
