Dear sir/madam,

I have installed Ubuntu Linux 9.10 in my system( not licensed
)........ Can i download the plug ins and decoders for playing
audio/video  files?. Is it open source?

 Hi Murali,

firstly, you don't need a license for Ubuntu 9.10 (not that I know of anyway :-) )
Secondly, you should upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04, since it's the latest stable version of Ubuntu (and so of gstreamer plugins) out there.

Lastly, yes, most plugins that you install alongwith the base gstreamer package are open source.

yes u need to install gstreamer latest version and good bad and ugly
packages of the plugins  from this links
