As a man who also faced with this a little bit earlier can say that's become a FAQ question. Of course developers should look at mail list, but this not guarantee that they will found earlier post on this problem.

May be its possible to expand notice on this topic if plugin build failing?
E.g "if your using kernel>2.6.37(?) you probably don't need this, use v4l2 from good"
