State of Android and iOS ports

Hi,

What is the status of GStreamer on non-rooted Android and iOS devices as of May 2012?

I saw http://gstreamer-devel.966125.n4.nabble.com/GStreamer-integration-for-Android-Gingerbread-td3445277.html but it wasn't clear whether this was a library that applications link against or something that requires us to root the actual device and alter the OS in some way.

Also, I could not find any official news about an iOS port. What's the situation there?
