Streaming into file and add text from file or pipe

Hi,
this is my first post and I'am currently developing a board with many
sensors for measuring pressure, temperature, conductivity, oxygen etc.. On
the board there is also a webcam. My task is to make a program for video
recording (streaming video from webcam to file system) and add datas from
those sensors into video stream.
Since this is new for me I will ask you for some advice or link if someone
maybe has done it.

How do you intend to add the data with the video stream?Burn it into the
video(overlay on top of the video) or send metadata along with the encoded
stream?
