Support for Linux Media Controller Subsystem

Hi,
 
I'm trying to find out more about the media controller subsystem described here:
http://lwn.net/Articles/415714/ . I see that the patch set described has been
merged into the kernel by now, but I'm trying to find out about the level of
support in userland. Does anyone know anything about the gstreamer source
element the article describes and what its current status is?
