Hi. I'm currently developing a video-wall application in GStreamer
1.0, and I've discovered a need for my stream-splitting calculations
to know something about the downstream monitors making up the video
wall. Obviously some information (such as the actual geometry of the
wall) will need to be provided, but it would be helpful if the video
sinks could send back information on the monitors they are attached
to, such as their available mode lists, preferred resolutions,
physical display sizes, and the like.
I've done a quick check and although some sinks (such as xvimagesink)
do acquire that information from their monitors, none of them appear
to send the information upstream for possible use by control software.
I can always just go in and modify the sinks I need to send back
appropriate events, but I thought I should ask here for advice first.
Has anyone talked about this in the past, and are there any proposed
data formats or recommended methods of doing this? I'd hate to do the
work only to find out someone else had been working on a similar idea.
