help writing an MXF video file

Does anyone have any example code for writing a valid MXF file?

I have tried a simple command line pipeline:

     gst-launch videotestsrc num-buffers=1000 !
video/x-raw-rgb,width=640,height=480,framerate=25/1 ! ffmpegcolorspace !
ffenc_mpeg2video ! mxfmux ! filesink location=test.mxf


It produces the test.mxf file, but it is unplayable by VLC.
