writing custom gstreamer 1.0 elements in python

Hey all,

i am trying to create some elements from scratch in python and i was
wondering how to go about doing that. I wanted to have the element do some
custom image processing on the video frame then send it back to the
pipeline. I have read some documentation on the subject but am still a
little confused. If someone could point me in right direction or give me an
example it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

I have written two posts on this subject recently, you can find them at

There were until recently a few issues in pygobject making writing elements
in pyython impractical, and you will probably need to build and use the most
recent version (3.27.5) if you do encounter these as well.

For your specific use case, you will want to implement a GstVideoFilter subclass,
be aware however that *video* processing in python might prove a bit taxing
performance-wise.
