Most of my ripped music is in OGG Vorbis. Rhythmbox on Debian Sid is
fine with this. Yesterday I tried playing something I have in MP3 and nothing. GStreamer didn't have the appropriate MP3 plugin. I have the Debian packages for base, good, bad, and ugly plugins, but none seem now to have an MP3 plugin. I have libmad0, libmpeg3-2, libmpeg2-4, ffmpeg, libmpg123-0 installed and I'm assuming at least one of those is up for the job. In a moment of stress I installed the fluendo plugin package and it all worked, but I am fairly sure I shouldn't have had to do this. Anyone any ideas what has changed recently that made this change? -- Russel. ========================================== Dr Russel Winder t: +44 20 7585 2200 41 Buckmaster Road m: +44 7770 465 077 London SW11 1EN, UK w: www.russel.org.uk _______________________________________________ gstreamer-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/gstreamer-devel signature.asc (849 bytes) Download Attachment |

Hello Russel, According to this page, the package gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly should contain libgstmpg123.so : https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly/filelistOn Sat, Mar 3, 2018 at 6:14 AM, Russel Winder <[hidden email]> wrote: On Fri, 2018-03-02 at 13:32 -0500, Nicolas Dufresne wrote: -- Sharuzzaman Ahmat Raslan _______________________________________________ gstreamer-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/gstreamer-devel |
Hi,
Problem solved. Somehow I had managed to get gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly 1.13.1 installed from Experimental. I have no idea how, but also the 1.13.1 doc packages from Experimental had been installed. None of the other gstreamer packages had been update from 1.12.4, hence the weirdness. Now I have a consistent 1.12.4 set up everything is fine and libgstmpg123.so is there, as everyone knew it would be. The actual feedback is that libgstmpg123.so is not in gstreamer1.0- plugins-ugly 1.13.1 On Sat, 2018-03-03 at 10:41 +1100, Sharuzzaman Ahmat Raslan wrote: > Hello Russel, > > According to this page, the package gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly should > contain libgstmpg123.so : > https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly/filel > ist > > This list is for gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly 1.12.4-1 > > Thanks. > ========================================== Dr Russel Winder t: +44 20 7585 2200 41 Buckmaster Road m: +44 7770 465 077 London SW11 1EN, UK w: www.russel.org.uk _______________________________________________ gstreamer-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/gstreamer-devel signature.asc (849 bytes) Download Attachment |
Hi, MP3 is no longer patented so perhaps it is moving from ugly to good or bad.

Some packaging confusion happened, it's already supposed to depend on >= 1.13.90. -- Sebastian Dröge, Centricular Ltd · https://www.centricular.com _______________________________________________ gstreamer-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/gstreamer-devel signature.asc (981 bytes) Download Attachment |

But it is important to have MP3, and now the patent has expired everything is much happier. Subsidiary question: DVB stuff is in -bad, not -good, is there a metric for moving or is it just there because it's there?
