Google Summer of Code 2012

Stefan Sauer
Hi,
As some you might know, Google's Summer of Code 2012 is starting and
orgs applications are open. We have applied GStreamer once again this year.

So, if you have ideas for projects that students could pick up and
apply, please share them here in the ML or write them up on the wiki
[1]. The application period for orgs is really short (until 10th), so
we'd like to have that list full and updated as soon as possible.

And, if you'd like to participate as a student, feel free to join us on
IRC/ML and chat around about your ideas or a task that interests you.

Re: Google Summer of Code 2012

Hi,

GStreamer got accepted as an org. Thus a gentle reminder for:
* developers to update/populate the task list [1]
* students ping us on irc and start to talk to developers.

I suggested some time ago DV muxer and encoder elements for GStreamer (but got no feedback).
Is this suitable for SoC? (Is it interesting at all for GStreamer?)

Cheers,
Andres

Re: Google Summer of Code 2012

Christian Fredrik Kalager Schaller
Hi Andres,
I don't think its a suitable task for Soc, as it might be a quite small
task, there is ffmux_dv that might work, and it is a relatively obscure
operation. For the sake of completeness it could be interesting for
GStreamer, but not as a GSoC I think.

I think what I personally think would be interesting projects is doing
something 0.11/1.0 related, like make sure the libva/vdpau stuff works
really well in 0.11 or work on helping with the development and/or maybe
0.11 porting of a major application like PiTiVi, Jokosher or Buzztard
would be good tasks.

Christian

Andrey Nechypurenko-2
What do you guys think about better support for stereo?
Something towards the ideas presented by Martin Bisson:
http://gstconf.ubicast.tv/videos/3d-stereoscopic-and-gstreamer/ well
integrated into the main trunk?

Thanks,
Andrey.

Re: Google Summer of Code 2012

Christian Fredrik Kalager Schaller
I think that would be a great idea, I know Wim has been trying to
accommodate future 3D extensions in 0.11, but haven't had any time yet
to actually implement anything. So if anyone wants to do that as a
summer of code project that could be a great contribution and we could
have a fully 3D ready 1.0 release.
