Nvidia plugin

boxerab@gmail.com
I see there's a new nVidia decoder element that handles mpeg 2 and 4. Is there a corresponding encoder?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
Could you post a url about those elements?

Thanks!  Sounds promising.

From the discussion here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781537, it sounds like I
should not expect VDPAU to work on the GTX 1080 because it has the Pascal architecture (uh oh… I was about to buy some hardware…) .

I am also VERY MUCH hoping an encoder is out there.  I’m working on research for the NSF (in the USA), and was hoping to use hardware accelerated encoding with gstreamer (with newer hardware).  I didn’t realize that VDPAU would only work on older hardware.

I’m glad you mentioned this.  If anybody has advice on what the sweet spot is for hardware accelerated encoding with gstreamer, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks,
Andrew

NVIDIA has two APIs currently, nvdec and nvenc. (VDPAU is no longer
supported, OpenMAX is for embedded)

For nvenc there is already a plugin available in gst-plugins-bad since
a year or so.
