You might want to look at gst-av instead. Hi,
libav 0.7 is going to be released within the coming days/weeks. It would be pointless for us to release just before that. The goal is to pre-release gst-ffmpeg within the next 7 days, and then a release after libav 0.7 final is out. Thanks for your understanding and patience, Edward On Thu, 2011-06-16 at 15:37 +0200, Farkas Levente wrote: > hi, > do you plan any new ffmpeg release? since there was now ffmpeg release > about a year ago? and there was a lots of changes and there was not even > any planed release... > thanks. > _______________________________________________ gstreamer-devel mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/gstreamer-devel |
Hmm, so is gst-ffmpeg going to start using libav code but keep the
name? Or will gst-ffmpeg be replaced by gst-av (http://code.google.com/p/gst-av/)? I don't care a bit about the ffmpeg vs. libav thing, but am curious what GStreamer developers have decided. Sorry if I missed a message about this. -Josh On Thu, Jun 16, 2011 at 9:58 AM, Edward Hervey <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi, > > libav 0.7 is going to be released within the coming days/weeks. gst-ffmpeg is the solution supported by the gstreamer team - and yes,
it'll be using libav. I wouldn't recommend use of gst-av, personally. Hi,

We will *recommend* using libav, and that is what we will be using in our recommended local checkout (i.e. if you don't use the system installed ones). The reasons why we recommend going with libav are many, but comes down to them caring way more about downstream users than any alternative. You're welcome to make gst-ffmpeg work with alternatives (like the original ffmpeg), and if it doesn't interfere with the libav versions we could accept patches also. But we will only provide support and code that works with libav. > Or will gst-ffmpeg be replaced by gst-av > (http://code.google.com/p/gst-av/)? Sorry if I missed a message about this. gst-av is an independent plug-in for libavcodec, works for both latest FFmpeg and libav at the moment, but will support libav only. gst-ffmpeg is the one blessed by GStreamer developers.
